Williams Commit To 2009 F1 Season
Williams have committed to the 2009 Formula One season, stating that they are close to having their complete funding for the 2009 season. This news comes close on the heels of Honda pulling out of Formula One and putting the entire team up for sale.
BMW Sauber, Ferrari, McLaren, Toyota and Renault have all called for costs in F1 to be driven down. Hardly surprising in a sport where a steering wheel costs £10,000. However, Williams have also stated that financially, they may very well be better off in the 2009 season than the 2008 season, and that their search for sponsors and financing is progressing better this year than in the previous two years. This is important because Williams are one of the only teams in Formula 1 who are independent and not owned or part owned by a car manufacturer or engine manufacturer.
The Williams driver line up for next year will consist of Nico Rosberg and Kazuki Nakajima. Jenson Button has been linked with the team, although rumours of him possibly joining the promising Toro Roso team have also been floating around. With Toro Roso having a strong season last year, I personally think Button at Toro Roso could only be a good thing.
